Why if I pay over $2000 in property taxes a year......do my children have to pay to ride the SCHOOL BUS???? Where I come from you don't pay to ride the school bus....it is covered by the school district ...who gets their money from the collected property taxes!!!!
Another thing I don't understand is why do we have to constantly be fund raising? When my kids went to a private school I understood the need to fund raise...all of the money coming into the school was from the parents, with no assistance from the state. But now that they are at a public school all they want the kids to do is fund raise.
What bothers me even more is the tricks they use to lure these kids into fundraising...it's almost as devious as the candy in the checkout aisle in the grocery store.....evil I tell you!
They hold an assembly to lure the children into fundraising with the promises of goods to be won...if they sell 1000 candy bars. What's even worse is that little Johny's parents take their candy everywhere they go to peddle the 1000 candy bars...when they could just buy them a Ipod shuffle for $50 at Walmart!
Then my child is having a conniption because I will not kill myself to sell a ridiculous amount of candy bars....appalled at the fact that I will not buy 5 Entertainment books at $25 a piece!
I just don't understand...........................

This hits a hot button with me. I refuse to do fund raisers that use cheap stuff to lure kids into doing it. My kids now know Mama won't play that game. Not for a public school. I might buy a couple boxes of krispy kremes cuz they're good and fresh. I normally send it right back to the school.
I understand the private school fundraisers. Totally and completely. I don't do it for public schools.
But the schools don't get any of that tax money do they? I don't remember any of our prop. taxes going to the schools there. I know our property taxes were dirt cheap there compared to anywhere here on the mainland which helped us be able to afford the house we were in!
Totally with ya on the fundraiser issue though - another reason I'm glad we homeschool. One less thing to deal with :-)
Shari...where I come from the property taxes go back to the schools...at least a portion of it does. I know mine are wayyy less than my sister who lives in Connecticut. And if its not going towards the schools what the heck are they using it for? I live in a private community and I have to pay maintence fees which takes care of our roads and lights on the road...
Jill - I totally know where you are coming from. Where I was raised as well as when we owned our first home the property taxes went to the school but they were also way higher. You should get a statement each year that lists where your property taxes are going. I know we did -I'll have to loook to see if I still have it. I know in IL we were paying $3000 a year on a home valued at $135,00 (bought it for $118K) and $2000 went to the elementary and high school in our district. The library got some of it and the rest was spread out over different city stuff.
Miss your blogging! I know you're busy but DUDE!
